The world famous Fairey Band from Stockport were our Champions in 2015.
They also pick up awards for Best Euphonium (James Fieldhouse),
Best Soprano Cornet (Jon Probert) and Best Basses – not a bad haul from one performance!
Tewit Youth Band were first down the street again but couldn’t quite match The Band of The King’s Division for Deportment
Oldham Music Centre took the Youth Band title with 2nd Rossendale Scouts coming, well, 2nd!
Rochdale Borough Youth were as popular as ever but not as much as the last Youth Band to play, our very own Delph!
Several foreign bands featured this year, BB Frutigen of Switzerland and the furthest travelled by far – City of Traralgon from Australia
From a little closer to home were non-contesting bands Lydgate and The Dobcross Brass Monkeys
Keeping it local were our very own Delph Band and Marsden Silver from ‘over’t tops’
Regular visitors Kingsway Printers (Cleethorpes) were rewarded with the Best 3rd or 4th section Band prize and Steve Malcolm impressed with his Orterby Band from the North East, gaining 9th place from performance No.6
Leon Renilson helped to secure 2nd place for Brighouse & Rastrick, gaining the prize for Best Principal Cornet along the way. Perhaps this young lady from Coleshill Youth Brass may be following in his footsteps one day? These two pictures just go to show the wide range of players that take part in the Whit Friday contests, part of the special magic of the evening!
